Neurosoft Bioelectronics Wins China’s Provincial Competition as “Fujian’s Iconic BCI Product”

Geneva, Switzerland and Xiamen, Fujian — October 16th, 2026 — Neurosoft Bioelectronics, a developer of high-bandwidth brain-computer interfaces (BCIs), today announced that it has won a gold prize in the 2026 Fujian Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition in the Biotechnology track.

A strategic moment for BCI in China

Neurosoft’s selection comes as China rapidly expands its investment and industrial policy support for brain-computer interfaces. BCI has been designated a future industry under China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), with national policy calling for development across fundamental research, technology demonstration, commercial applications and supporting business and regulatory systems.

According to the Linggang Group and Blue Ocean Capital Group, two independent firms leading BCI investments in China, the country has invested close to US$1 billion in BCI in H1 of 2026 to date, overtaking the United States in bi-annual BCI spending for the first time.

Marking a historic transition of BCI technology from the laboratory into clinical practice, on March 13, 2026, China approved the world’s first invasive BCI medical device for chronic commercial use. Neurosoft is building for this next phase of the industry. With hardware optimised for safety and indication-specific signal quality, Neurosoft’s SOFT ECOG product is entering its industrialisation phase.

As Neurosoft expands its clinical footprint internationally, the company aims to acquire a large scale dataset of labelled human cortical control of movement, simultaneously spanning cortical regions implicated in motor attention, planning, decision-making, execution, and sensory integration; A most comprehensive view of a dynamical system evolved to optimise dexterous high-dimensional mechanical control under feedback.

This unique dataset may become a key differentiator in global leadership in another, more mature, future industry of the 15th Five-Year Plan: Humanoid Robots.

Neurosoft is confident in finding key position in Fujian’s BCI launchpad

Neurosoft’s proposal has been selected from over a thousand projects accepted to the preliminaries. The competition was organised by the Talent Work Leading Group Office of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee with support from governmental departments of several cities and districts.

Fujian, with 2025 GDP of circa USD 850 billion and annual R&D spending of USD 18 billion, represents an unusually strong platform for international high-tech growth. For example, the city of Xiamen contains one of China’s first special economic zones, established in 1980. The Pilot Free Trade Zone holds the rare power to enact its own laws within the zone, adopting rules for emerging technologies without waiting on national legislation. They introduced 391 policy measures, 74 of them national firsts, including China’s first bonded-maintenance pilot for third-party medical devices. In 2025, Xiamen’s foreign trade reached a record USD 132 billion.

Neurosoft is pursuing a staged global strategy to develop next generation of BCI products which are safe to reach the mass market. A feat not achievable without a mature industrialisation ecosystem and policy alignment.

The provincial recognition poises Neurosoft as Fujian’s flagship high-bandwidth BCI company, developing next-generation neural interfaces capable of recording and decoding large-scale brain activity for treatment of epilepsy and high degree-of-freedom control of one’s own paralysed body.

Xiamen partnership creates a pathway from research to clinical deployment

Neurosoft aims to collaborate closely with the Neurotechnology Innovation and Impact Institute (N3I) of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, which has established itself as a platform for translating neurotechnology from scientific research toward clinical and commercial impact. N3I operates in both Xiamen and Chengdu, with Gerwin Schalk, Ph.D., serving as Director in Xiamen.

“We are excited to work with Neurosoft to translate advanced high-bandwidth BCI technology into clinical applications. Our collaboration will establish the infrastructure to evaluate Neurosoft’s devices, to innovate new neurosurgical protocols based on them, and to create a pathway toward deploying these devices across Fujian Province.”

For Neurosoft, N3I provides a critical one-stop translational platform connecting neurotechnology research, clinical validation, entrepreneurship and commercialisation.

The broader West China Hospital ecosystem also gives Neurosoft access to one of China’s largest academic medical networks, creating an important gateway for future patient recruitment and clinical research. West China Hospital of Sichuan University has an extensive clinical and regional healthcare network and is ranked #1 in research and amongst the top 5 neurology and neurosurgery centres in China.
